About JunkCarValue
We started JunkCarValue because selling a junk car should not feel like a trap. Here is what we do, how we make our numbers, and what we will and will not promise.
Why we exist
Most junk car sites hide the price behind a form and spring a lower number on you at pickup. We built the opposite: a calculator that shows you an estimated value range with the full math before you share any contact information, and a plain account of who pays us for sending you on.
How we make money
We are free to use because buyers pay us, not you. We currently have one affiliate partner, Peddle, and we are paid a share of what your car sells for, after their costs, if you sell to them through our link. Other buyers appear in our comparisons and pay us nothing. We have earned tens of dollars from this site in total, not thousands, and we would rather say that than imply a scale we do not have. The whole arrangement is on our affiliate disclosure page.
How we make our estimates
Our estimates are built from transparent inputs - recyclable scrap weight, the catalytic converter, and a parts-and-demand premium for cars worth more than their metal. We use a maintained vehicle weight table and a publicly anchored scrap-price estimate, and we label every number as an estimate rather than a quote. The full method is on how we calculate your offer.
What we promise - and what we do not
We are honest about our role: we are a lead service. We give you a fair estimate and hand you off to a buyer, but we do not own the tow trucks, we do not pay you, and we do not vet or license anybody - we have not audited a single buyer's books or inspected a single tow. What we can control is our own math, our own sourcing, and telling you when a buyer we cannot reach is the better fit for your car. Read what a written offer does and does not lock in for the details.
Our editorial standards
- Every price input is shown, sourced where possible, and labeled an estimate.
- We publish ranges, not false-precision single numbers.
- We tell you the downsides - salvage titles, missing converters, flood history.
- We keep guidance current as scrap prices and state rules change.
